The infrastructure of LAB Technologies is located on 1 site and is completely virtualized on VMware. It consists of 10 physical servers and 35 virtual machines, which store various applications, software, and demo labs. Not so long ago, the team at LAB Technologies was using VM snapshots instead of proper backups and were manually copying files. One day, they were shocked to find out that all the data had been scripted, and all the backups disappeared. The task of bringing everything back online and making systems available was daunting. Solution
NAKIVO Backup & Replication can be easily deployed in a VMware environment, with the first backup job ready to run within minutes after installation and configuration. The product offers flexible deployment options on NAS devices, on Windows/Linux, as well as a VMware virtual appliance.
“Installation was pretty easy and completed within an hour,” says Archil Ivanishvili, Junior Infrastructure Solution Architect at LAB Technologies. “Firstly, when we started the installation, we did not use or read the user guide because the web interface was simple and user-friendly. Now, we installed NAKIVO Backup & Replication directly on a VM into our servers, and are using a Transporter that is connected to our QNAP NAS storage.”
NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides incremental, application-consistent backups using VMware’s Changed Block Tracking (CBT) technology for faster tracking of changed blocks of data. Moreover, the Global Data Deduplication feature optimizes storage usage and further reduces costs.

“I enjoy VMware monitoring functionality the most as the feature provides all the necessary information I need to proactively monitor the health of our environment. We configure alerts to quickly detect suspicious activities in the environment, and we can also view different kinds of reports,” says Archil.
Results
